Michael Thorpe is a Local Licensed Pastor appointed to the Wolcott United Methodist Church on a 1/4 time appointment since April, 2017. Pastor Thorpe attended Local Pastor Licensing School in the New York Conference at St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield Connecticut. He is responsible for leading worship and providing pastoral care and has been serving the church since October, 2015.
Pastor Thorpe holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Vermont. He has completed undergraduate study in music performance at the University of Lowell in Lowell, MA and Biology at Fitchburg State College in Fitchburg, MA. He served in the Air Force as a helicopter technician and spent many years in Vermont working as a mechanic. He is currently employed winters as a ski instructor at Stowe Mountain Resort and delivers firewood in the off season.
Prior to serving as pastor at the Wolcott UMC, Pastor Thorpe served as the Choir Director for the Puffer UMC in Morrisville, VT.
He is married to Laurie Thorpe and they make their home in Johnson, VT.
Rev. Pat is a retired ordained elder in the New England Conference of The United Methodist Church. She graduated from the University of Vermont in 1967 with a B.S. in Home Economics with a specialty in Early Childhood Development and Social Work. She graduated in 1986 from the Boston University School of Theology with a Masters of Divinity.
She has served churches in northern Maine and Vermont, including the United Church of Johnson (October 1999 - June 2003), and the Puffer and Wolcott UMC's (Nov. 2005-June 2008). She retired from full-time ministry in June, 2008. She served as 1/4 Coordinating Pastor for the Puffer and Wolcott UMC's from January, 2015 - October, 2015 and 1/4 time Co- Pastor for the Wolcott UMC since November, 2015, handling administrative duties. She is currently the keyboardist for the WUMC, as well.
Rev. Pat has been heavily involved in the United Methodist historical community since 1986 serving on both the Maine Conference and New England Commission on Archives and History (NECCAH), the General Commission on Archives and History, and the New England United Methodist Historical Society (NEUMHS) and the Historical Society of the UMC (HSUMC). She is currently the Historian for the New England Annual Conference and edits a quarterly newsletter for the NECCAH/NEUMHS and is also the Editor of the Historian's Digest, the quarterly newsletter for the HSUMC.
She has been married to Vernon Thompson for 30 years (in November) and they make their home in Morrisville.
